Musical Instrument Control over a MIDI Interface
MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) is an electronic interface standard / protocol that allows a wide range of electronic musical instruments to communicate with each other ot be controlled from a computer or ‘sequencer’.
The PiXi looks to be ideal low-cost solution for creating a simple MIDI sequencer, controlled by the Raspberry Pi to control any electronic musical instrument that uses a MIDI interface.
It would require the GPIO to be modified slightly to provide the optical isolation that’s required by the MIDI I/O standard but apart from this small modification it looks to be a good product for creating a simple MIDI sequencer.
An interesting twist would be to use the PiXi FPGA to decode the MIDI data and drive LED’s Lights etc in time to the music. Something that might find an interesting application in sensory rooms.
